DualChip NanoLaser
Diode Pumped,
Passively Q-switched, Amplified Microchip Laser
Production of high energy, high
repetition rate pulses is usually achieved by combining one oscillator and one
amplifier in a complex and complicated system. Such a system requires active
modulation with high speed electronics for short pulse production from the
oscillator plus injection and synchronization of the pulses inside the
amplifier. The DualChip NanoLaser is an
entirely passive laser system designed for short pulse generation and
amplification. The oscillator directly produces micro-Joule pulses at the
desired repetition rate that are amplified in a non-synchronized two pass
amplifier.
Simple Yet
Efficient UV Laser
The DualChip
NanoLaser incorporates the innovative passively
Q-switched NanoLaser cavity consisting of a thin layer of Cr4+ doped
YAG saturable absorber embedded monolithically in the Nd:YAG laser medium with
two mirrors deposited at the ends. When pumped with a continuous wave diode
laser, this cavity emits a high repetition rate, high peak power beam, without
the costly and complicated use of electronics required for traditional
Q-switched lasers. This beam passes twice, without any electronic
synchronization, through a compact, diode pumped, Nd:YVO4 amplifier
selected for its high gain and ability to sustain high repetition rate. The
output of the amplifier is a high repetition rate (tens of kHz) train of
sub-nanosecond pulses with tens of kWatts of peak power. Since the conversion
efficiency to generate green and UV wavelengths increases with the square of the
incoming IR beam power, green and UV output can be efficiently generated from a
passively Q-switched laser with high peak power. This efficiency allows us to
place the non-linear crystals outside the cavity, in a single pass
configuration, giving the DualChip NanoLaser
stability and good beam quality, yet with a simple, efficient and compact
design.
Compact
Industrial Laser
The DualChip
NanoLaser is designed as an OEM product to work in different and changing
environments. Several TECs maintain the main laser components at an optimal
temperature and a built-in air-cooled heatsink allows the laser head to work as
a stand-alone unit. A rugged mechanical design and a hermetically sealed laser
head protect the optical components from dust, fumes, condensation and
vibration. These features bring an inherent stability to the laser, eliminating
the need for complex and costly electronic feedback loops. A new OEM power
supply has no external adjustment and allows stable operation of the laser The
compact package includes an AC/DC converter to operate directly from the wall
plug voltage, and diode protection circuits to protect against ESD and
overheating. Whether used in an OEM system or in a scientific environment the DualChip
NanoLaser is an easy to use, hands-off laser.
Many
Applications
The DualChip
NanoLaser is an excellent general purpose laser for scientific laboratories with
the built-in simplicity and ruggedness of an industrial laser. However, it is in
OEM applications that it will demonstrate its full potential as a dependable
work horse, replacing complex, expensive or obsolete technologies in
photo-chemistry, photo-polymerization, laser induced fluorescence, laser
ablation, material processing, high speed laser marking, and analytical
instrumentation.
